The change to next rating is subjected to number of flown hours up to First Officer rating.
To get the Captain rating, you will need an evaluation either from the Training Manager or from a Training Captain.
To get higher ratings than Captain, candidate must, depending on the targeted rating, fulfill qualifications tests, a test flight or an aptitude flight.
You will find in this article the list of those ratings, as well as exam information.
We remind you that those exam are not here to replace the ones from IVAO, and that required conditions are very reasonable. There is no need to already have a (true) PPL or ATPL qualification.
Line Captain rating
- Duration: 1h30 maximum
- Test condition: private network or IVAO
- Test condition: private network or IVAO
- Local flight preparation
- Local flight with standard departure and arrival with at least a conventional turn.
- Questions during the flight:
- Panel general knowledge
- Charts reading
- Flight instrument tuning
- Flight log questions
- Fill a flight plan
- IFR departures and arrivals
- Some other questions, up to examiner discretion will be asked during the flights and during the debriefing session. Around 25 questions will be asked.
- Panel general knowledge
- The test will be done under IVAO conditions, which means with voice communication and under ATC, with French phraseology.
- Success: total score must be 60/100 or over.
- Questions examples:
- 1- First contact phraseology before departure ?
- 2- How to set the squawk code ?
- 3- What is the purpose of squawk codes 7700 and 7600 ?
- 4- Where do we find MSA on a given chart ?
- 5- What is the meaning of MSA ?
Full Captain rating
- Duration: 1h30 maximum
- Test condition: private network or IVAO
- Flight rules: IFR with ATR or Learjet 45 or similar
- 100nm minimum flight preparation
- Example Lille – CDG via MATIX max FL110 with SID and STAR
- The test will be done under IVAO conditions, which means with voice communication and under ATC, with French or English phraseology.
- During flight preparation, the examiner will ask some questions.
- Required knowledge are:
- Panel knowledge
- SID/STAR knowledge
- Flight instruments tuning
- Flight log questions
- Fill a flight plan
- Emergency procedures
- ILS interceptions
- At least, 25 (simple) questions, or more
- After the flight, when in blocks, a debriefing will be done, and answers given by the candidate will be taken into account for the final evaluation.
- Success: total score must be 70/100 or over.
Senior Captain rating
- Duration: 1h30 maximum
- Test condition: private network or IVAO
- Flight rules: IFR with B737 maximum or similar
- 100nm minimum flight preparation
- Example Lille – CDG via MATIX max FL110 with SID and STAR
- The test will be done under IVAO conditions, which means with voice communication and under ATC, with English.
- During flight preparation, the examiner will ask some questions.
- Required knowledge are:
- Panel knowledge
- Charts knowledge
- Flight instruments tuning
- Flight log questions
- Fill a flight plan
- Emergency procedures
- Holding patterns
- RVSM
- Missed approach procedures
- Radial interception
- At least, 25 (simple) questions, or more.
- After the flight, when in blocks, a debriefing will be done, and answers given by the candidate will be taken into account for the final evaluation.
- Success: total score must be 75/100 or over.
Training Captain rating
Important note: it is mandatory to be ATC in order to apply for this rating
- Duration: 2h00 maximum
- Test condition: IVAO network
- Flight rules: IFR with Heavy
- 100nm minimum flight preparation

- The test will be done under IVAO conditions, which means with voice communication and under ATC, with English phraseology.
- During flight preparation, the examiner will ask some questions.
- Required knowledge are :
- Panel knowledge

- During 30 minutes, the examiner will be piloting, and the applicant will control
- Totally 50 (simple) questions
- After the flight, when in blocks, a debriefing will be done, and answers given by the candidate will be taken into account for the final evaluation.
- Success: total score must be 75/100 or over.
If you succeed to this rating, you will automatically be part of the training team, and may be asked to examine some applicants for above ratings...
